I feel like venting a little here. First I want to say how fantastic it is that Ancestry.com has finished scanning the 1940 Census files and have them available for viewing online.
It's like having a birthday cake put in front of you and being told that it's not for you and that you can not taste it. You can only look at it.
I realize it is going to take folks time and a fair amount of hard work to make the census indexed for searching, and although you can select which pages to look at by enumeration district or address, it has not really helped me. I've used all the suggestions Ancestry.com has provided and really no luck!
I have starred at thousands of pages looking for relatives, narrowed down by either their 1930 Census location or their street address in or around 1940. I have found 1 family out of dozens and frankly the family record I found is somewhat like searching for your lost car keys and instead finding that lost sock. Sure it's great finding the lost sock but come on now... where are those car keys!
Is anyone out there having luck finding family in the 1940 Census?
I found my maternal great-grandparents after some browsing [Hidalgo County, Texas]. I found my father, grandfather and family on the first page of their Enumeration District. [Waco, Texas. Score!] I haven't found my maternal grandparents [also Waco, Texas]; but in all fairness I haven't tried very hard.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm trying too hard. LOL
